Artistic Director Audition Information
Bells of the Rockies is currently seeking an Artistic Director for the 2018-2019 season.
Bells of the Rockies is an auditioned community handbell choir comprised of handbell ringers from the Northern Colorado area. We were founded in 1996, and we have 501(c)(3) not-for-profit status. We are governed by a Board of Directors, we have written rules of procedures and an audition process.
Our mission is dedicated to musical excellence and service to the community through artistic handbell performance and educational outreach. We ring on borrowed 5 octaves of Schulmerich handbells and we own 5 octaves of Malmark chimes.
We average 4-6 performances per year. Our performance year goes from June through May,. We currently have weekly rehearsals on Tuesday nights from 7-9 pm at Faith United Church of Christ in Windsor, Colorado. Rehearsals typically start in mid August and end in May.
Artistic Director Job Description:
1. The Artistic Director is responsible for the musical themes and
choices for the choir.
2. The Artistic Director shall choose the music for each season
before the season starts and is responsible for assigning parts
before the piece is passed out. After the music is chosen the
Artistic Director will ask the librarian to place music in the
3. The Artistic Director will lead weekly rehearsals, setting the
tone for rehearsals to include: professional behavior, staying
on task, assuring on-time beginnings and endings of rehearsals.
4. The Artistic Director shall manage rehearsals to ensure that
all pieces in the season’s repertoire are seen frequently enough
to ensure a high performance level.
5. For ringer auditions, the Artistic Director shall prepare the
audition piece and shall mail packets to those ringers who
have submitted audition forms at least two weeks prior to the
audition date. The Artistic Director will also take part in the
ringer audition process.
6. The Artistic Director shall be a voting member of the Board of
Directors, and the Personnel Committee, and is responsible for
carrying out all responsibilities relative to this position.
7. The Artistic Director reports to the Board of Directors.

The Artistic Director receives an honorarium per season. This will
be negotiated as part of a one-year, renewable contract. It is encouraged
that the Director provide constructive feedback to encourage and
inspire ringers and the entire ensemble to perform at its highest potential.
